However there are parallel disadvantages to paper: If you forget your diary/don't carry it everywhere, you can't add something to your diary If you lose your diary or have it stolen, you can lose your data Somebody could find or read your diary. The main disadvantages I see: If your portable devices are out of battery, you can't add something to your diary If the software fails, you can lose your data They require mobile data or WiFi to synchronise Somebody could hack into it.

Someone in another thread asked what the disadvantages of electronic diaries were the way I see it: They're all things I could live without and just deal with a diary but it makes life so much easier. I do sometimes write lists down on paper if I'm going to action them quickly like cleaning the house, same-day shopping list or some short tasks in work. It automatically picks up Outlook calendar events and calculates travel time and public transport routes for me to get places on time. when I'm 100metres from Tesco it reminds me of my shopping list and I can tick individual items off easily. I've started to use Google Now/Keep more recently as you can set location-based reminders e.g. Android and the iPad are good at keeping shared Google Calendars sync'd alongside Exchange ones which is handy.

I use my work/personal university Outlook calendars and it syncs emails, calendar, notes, reminders and tasks across my Android phone, Linux laptop, Windows work PCs, iPad, and has a handy web interface if I get caught out. I also use an Odomy USB C Hub 8 as my dongle for connecting my monitor, USB sticks and memory cards to my Mac.Electronic mostly. I think this is a great way to avoid spending a fortune, but obviously be extremely careful and be aware that buying second-hand always carries some risk! I picked this up for £650, when it was retailing for around £1,399, so for me it was a risk worth taking. I’m not going to include a link to buy this as I actually bought mine second-hand refurbished on eBay (as I did previously with my 2011 Mac). I like the way it integrates seamlessly across my calendar, reminders, notes, music and photos with my iPhone. However, for me, I love every thing about my Mac. Undoubtedly my most used tool, I spend considerably more time in front of my Mac than I do with my girlfriend – seriously! Is it absolutely necessary to have a Mac instead of another reasonably high performance, but cheaper, laptop? No – of course not.
